📋Step-by-Step Guide

Register your child at the local city hall

When you register your residence, children of compulsory school age (6–15) are automatically enrolled in the public school system.

Receive school assignment from city hall

The education board will assign your child to the nearest public elementary or junior high school. You'll receive a notice (就学通知書).

Visit the assigned school

Contact the school to arrange an orientation visit. Bring your child's passport, residence card, and health records (immunization history if available).

Consider International Schools (optional)
